A heartfelt tribute to a self-taught gelato master
Context:
Fernández Fernández is the latest culinary venture from Silvana and Mariana Villegas, paying homage to their extraordinary mother, Martha. Part donut shop, part soft-serve ice cream pop-up, this project is a heartfelt tribute to Martha’s legacy as a self-taught gelato master and her remarkable presence in their lives.
Challenge:
Our task was to develop a brand identity that honors Martha’s creative genius and her lifelong dedication to the art of gelato-making. With Martha’s vibrant personality as our guiding principle, we set out to capture the essence of Fernández Fernández.
Solution:
Through in-depth interviews with family members and those who knew her intimately, our exploration revealed Martha’s indomitable presence, marked by a vivacious spirit imbued with boldness and revelry.
Crafting the right tone of voice was paramount. Our goal was to create an outlet for Martha’s unexpressed artistry and celebrate the joy of creation, channeling her creativity into the brand identity.
Inspired by Martha’s ethos, we opted for a simple yet delightful packaging design. Bold cursive lines adorn every surface of the donut boxes, cone sleeves, paper cups, and ice cream pints, embodying abstract creativity and mirroring the smooth, flowing movement of soft ice cream.
The brand narrative unfolds in an illustrated universe brimming with elements and characters, capturing the exuberance of ice cream making and indulgence. From digital platforms to physical touchpoints, Fernández Fernández’s storytelling serves as an extension of Martha’s universe, reflecting the company’s ethos and values at every turn.
