A visual evolution for season two of the Netflix series
Context:
“La Primera Vez” is a Colombian TV series set in late 1970s Bogotá, written by Dago García. It chronicles teenagers experiencing key life events for the first time, resonating with both young adults and older viewers through its unique storylines and nostalgic aesthetic. The second season builds on this success by evolving the narrative and characters while maintaining the visual appeal that captivated the original audience.
Challenge:
The challenge for the second season was to build on the established success while introducing new elements that reflect the characters’ growth. It was crucial to preserve the nostalgic 1970s appeal while incorporating a fresh, modern twist. Additionally, the introduction of darker themes required careful management to ensure the series remained engaging for its young and family-oriented audience. We also needed to refine the visual universe and reinforce the original identity of the series as part of the expanding brand narrative.
Solution:
S&Co played a pivotal role in this evolution by managing the art direction of photo shoots, motion graphics for the title treatment, and developing the entire visual identity system. We expanded the brand’s visual universe by crafting a cohesive visual language, which enabled Netflix’s marketing teams to introduce new brand elements and gestures, ensuring a consistent expression of the series’ identity across multiple brand touchpoints.
